Island of Ist
A small island in the Zadar Archipelago
Ist is one of the smaller islands of the Zadar archipelago, with a single settlement and fewer than 200 permanent residents. Seen from above, its shape resembles a butterfly, while the village of Ist lies between two natural harbours, Široka to the south and Kosirača to the north.
Life on Ist follows a slower rhythm, closely connected to the sea, nature and the changing seasons.
The island is particularly well known among sailors thanks to its sheltered harbours and its location in the heart of the Zadar archipelago. Visitors are drawn to viewpoints overlooking the surrounding islands, traces of the island’s rich history preserved at archaeological sites, and its local culinary tradition.
Thanks to its location, Ist is also an excellent starting point for exploring nearby islands and secluded coves.
One of the island’s most recognisable landmarks is Straža Hill with the Church of Our Lady of Health, offering views across a large part of the surrounding archipelago.

One of the pleasures of staying on Ist is discovering the many bays and natural beaches scattered along its coastline.
To make exploring the island and the surrounding archipelago easier, we have prepared two maps based on our personal experience of living on Ist and on places we ourselves enjoy visiting and recommending to our guests.

The The islands around MIST map shows selected bays and beaches on the surrounding islands that are accessed from the sea and may serve as inspiration when planning trips through this part of the Zadar archipelago.
As many of these bays can only be reached from the sea, MIST guests can also explore them with our boat. Depending on availability, it may also be rented by other visitors staying on the island of Ist.

Archaeological landscape of the island of Ist - Archaeo.IST
"Archaeological landscape of the island of Ist - Archaeo.IST" is a student project led by archeology student Pio Domines Peter from Zadar, and the implementation of the project is ensured by the financial support of the University of Zadar.
The project was created with the idea of connecting archaeological heritage and cultural tourism in order to contribute to the sustainable development of the island of Ist.
